Do Dating Apps Work?
By James Preece
Every week, more and more dating apps are appearing. Each promises something different from the others but they all hope to entice singles to sign up with them. As a Dating Coach, I often get asked which ones are worth trying and if they work as well as Online Dating sites.
While they aren’t a replacement for online dating, dating apps can be a wonderful way to meet someone. You just have to be really clear about what you are doing. It’s not an instant solution if you aren’t prepared to use them properly. Here is my dating expert advice and thoughts for you that will ensure you make them work successfully.
Most of us have mobile phones nowadays and carry them with all of the time. So unlike a computer, you aren’t restricted when you want to use them. This means that if you have a dating app, you can use it on the way to and from work, at your desk or from the comfort of your sofa at home.
The huge advantage of this is that you are more likely to get quick responses. There’s no more waiting for a suitable time to get on a computer.
Apps can also use your phone’s location software to identify other singles that are nearby, no matter whether you are home or away.
Simple to Use
Apps can really be a great way to meet people very quickly. You just download it on your mobile phone, create your profile and it’s ready for you at the press of a button. You will also be able to sign in automatically without having to enter your log-in details each time you want to use it.
There are less functions than a dating site, but that means it can work more smoothly. Search options are restricted and the profiles are shorter, so you can scan through your matches quickly.
Apps are seen as much more fun than websites as they are so easy to use.
A Dating App is Only as Good as Their Members
It’s True. No matter how many features they might have, if the app doesn’t have many people signed up then your pool of singles is limited.
Go with a well-known app such as Zoosk and you’ll know you’ll get many more messages. Members can log in with their Facebook profile which makes sign up faster. You can also trust that they will be fast to remove any fake profiles or time wasters. It’s a more serious relationship minded app than some of the other apps that are gimmicky.
Match.com also have a fun app that is integrated with their online dating site. So you can start a conversation on your phone and then continue when you are by a computer.
Make sure you have a Fantastic Profile
The same rules apply for online dating sites as they do with dating apps. First and foremost, you absolutely must have an amazing photo. This is even more important with apps as it’s the very first thing the other person.
Just because the app is faster than an online dating site, doesn’t mean you’ll get more replies. You still have to make the effort to stand out from everyone else!
Best of Both Worlds
The sites work in sync with their apps so you are able to do everything either on your phone or through your computer. This flexibility allows you to spend as little or much time taking part as you want, depending on your mood.
So in my opinion, it’s definitely worth trying a dating app. They aren’t a replacement for online dating but can be a brilliant alternative if you use an app connected to an established online dating site. Check out our our website for full details of the ones we recommend.
