How To Find The Right Site For You

Finding the perfect dating siteBy James Preece

When you first start online dating, the choice can be overwhelming. There are so many sites out there – thousands in fact – so it can be almost impossible working out where to begin. As well as the big sites, there are countless niche sites based on ethnicity, religion, hobbies or lifestyle. This is perfect if you want to meet someone really specific, but it’s difficult to work out if it’s worth joining.

As a leading Dating Coach, I often get asked which site is the best one to start with. I tell people that there is no particular “best site” as each has their own pros, cons and variety of members. You need to choose the one that is right for your own needs. To do this there are certain key points that you should keep in mind.

Here is my expert advice which I hope will help you:

Ask Your Friends

Almost everyone has some friends who have tried online dating, so ask them about their own experiences. Do keep in mind that online dating does take a little effort if you want to be successful, so it’s not right for everyone. It’s better to listen to your friends that have actually had positive experiences and great dates. Their suggestions are much more likely to be valid ones.

Ask your friends about their online dating experiences

Start With One Site You’ve Heard Of

With so many sites to choose from, it is a good idea to begin with a more mainstream one. You can try niche sites later on, but for now you must go with a site that has a large active database. These are usually going to be the ones that you will have seen advertised. If you’ve heard of them then other singles will have too so you’ll have a larger pool to search from.

Do Some Research

You can usually create a free account on most sites before you pay, so you can have a look around before you decide if it’s the one for you. Run a few searches and see if there are any good matches in your area. However, don’t spend too long doing this as you are wasting time that you could be spending searching for your ideal matches. If you like it, sign up and give it a go.

Pay For A 3 Month Membership

When you sign up, you’ll be presented with a few different options for your membership term. This is usually one month, three months or six months. The longer your commit for then the cheaper it will be each month. I suggest that you go with the three month option. That’s because one month isn’t long enough for you to get used to the site and make a decision on whether it works for you or not. Six months can be too long to commit to. Stick to three and you can always try longer next time or move on to another.

Stick To A Paid Site

I’ll be explaining the differences between paid and free sites in a future article, but for now I strongly advise you start with a paid one. The main reason for this is that you are much more likely to meet other people who are looking for a serious relationship. After all, if they have paid for a membership then it’s a great indication they aren’t going to waste your time or be a low quality match for you. Free sites tend to attract members who aren’t ready for a long term relationship or have something to hide.

Remember, you are only going to start getting dates once you’ve joined a dating site so why not take action now and see who you might meet. Try signing up to one of the most popular dating sites, such as Zoosk or Match , and see if they’re the right for you. If not, there are many other great sites to choose from, you just need to go for it.
