PerfectMatch.com is immediately notable for its serious style. This is definitely a site for relationships, not games, but if you want something light to start off with, you can have a read of the blog containing seasonal dating tips – e.g. Spring Date Ideas – and topics like Online Dating Etiquette. Refine your matches exactly to your taste using the extensive categories as well as by location. Perhaps most impressive is the brain behind PerfectMatch.com, Dr Pepper Schwartz. Fizzy drinks jokes aside, she is a sociologist and sexologist professor at the University of Washington, one of the leading research facilities. She’s pioneered and developed the Duet Total Compatibility System, the only holistic dating tool that takes into account multiple aspects of your life and goals. If the scientific approach still isn’t enough to convince you, have a read of the numerous success stories!
Duet Total Compatibility System: a holistic approach to your lifestyle, goals and personality traits, taking into account deal-breakers as well as what you’re looking for in someone else. This test is free for the basic profile and you can add further in-depth details if you pay for a premium membership.
Option to search for your own matches: You don’t have to use the Duet system – or if you do, you can choose not to use it all the time and you can still manually search for your own matches, however you do have to pay for this feature.
Lots of discussion points and dating tips: leading sociologists and dating experts contribute to the blog to provide an informal way to boost your experiences. There are date ideas, fitness tips and news stories relating to online dating trends and activities. You can subscribe to the blog without signing up to the full dating site if you want a taste of the tone.
The website has a number of academic endorsements from renowned sociologists and professors. This boosts the credibility of the science behind the site enormously, and should make you feel like you’re in the most capable hands.
Links provided to sister sites each with a slightly different feel, if this is not quite the right site for you.
The sign up process is lengthy. The first part, entitled “essentials” asks for a lot of details which don't feel that essential at all. It’s not optional – you can’t skip it and fill it in later, but it does set the tone for the website which is a business-like, serious approach to finding you love. The quiz is 8 sections long, each one in a “true or false about me” format. You read the statement made – e.g. “When I am sad I don’t communicate well with a partner.” Then tick the box that says true or false depending on whether this applies to you or not.
The safety and privacy is taken very seriously on PerfectMatch – in line with the tone of the site as a whole. You cannot see any members’ profiles unless you are also a member. You control what personal information is visible to others and you are able to block users from contacting you. There is also a blog post about online dating safety that is on the homepage.
The free option allows you a basic membership of Duet technology matching, searching for matches and viewing them and any special offers from the site. The pricing system is a little confusing – you pay the larger amount up front then a lower amount that is listed per month after the first payment. There is an extensive list of perks that comes with paying for membership including sending and receiving messages, advanced search tools, unlimited access to profiles adding more photos and access to the “Ask Dr Schwartz” feature.
|OPTIONS||TOTAL COST||COST PER MONTH||SAVINGS|

Although the set-up process is long, it is not difficult. It is structured in a Q&A tick-box format so it is very easy to follow. You just click “save and continue” when you want to move on to the next section. The website is very text heavy but the layout is quite basic and everything is clearly labeled. There are adverts of course, but they are not very distracting. It is easy to find the basic features because of a clear side bar as well as tabs going along the top of the page. The chat feature is not obviously labeled – it is called Icebreakers because it is another feature with a Q&A design structured to gauge your level of interest in someone. It does however have the recognisable chat symbol.
The matches are suggested and sent to you based on your answers to questions you were asked during your profile set-up, using the Duet technology. To search for your own matches you have to pay for membership. It is of course best to answer the Duet Technology questions as honestly as possible to get the best matches tailored to you. A profile picture is always preferable and it’s definitely worth optimizing your matches by writing a little bit about yourself in the “In My Words” section.
